According to a new survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly half of the public health workers in the United States have reported symptoms of at least one mental health condition. The survey included 26,069 public health workers, of whom 48% reported symptoms of at least one mental health condition.

A total of 28.4% of the workers reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), while 8% of the workers reported suicidal thoughts. The survey showed that 27.9% of the workers had developed anxiety, followed by 27.7% of them developing depression.

Based on the survey, it was found that these symptoms were more prevalent among workers who worked more than sixty hours per week or spent most of their time working on COVID-19 response activity. The CDC stated that the findings of the survey have highlighted the need for public health organizations to protect the mental health of their employees.
